It may sound hard to believe, but it’s true: the government will reward you for buying and installing energy efficient windows and doors! You may qualify for a federal tax credit if you make certain improvements or purchase certain appliances for your home.  These changes need to boost the energy efficiency of your home in order to qualify.

It may be hard to believe, but your windows could be costing you money!  That’s a grim statement considering the cost of windows and what you probably paid to have them installed in the first place.  The truth is, it’s possible for energy efficient windows to pay for themselves in just a few years by saving you energy costs.

Purchase a tube of roofing cement and a piece of aluminum flashing from any hardware or home center.  Cut the flashing about 1 inch narrower than the ripped tab and about 4 inches longer so that it extends under the tabs on either side.  Use a flat pry bar to carefully loosen the damaged tab and the tabs to the left and right.  Next apply two or three thick beads of roofing cement to the surface beneath the shingle.  Slip the flashing underneath.  Apply more roofing cement on top of the flashing.  Press the tab down to adhere the flashing to the roof.

The old fashioned way to clean your vinyl siding is more difficult but definitely has its advantages.  Simply washing the vinyl with soap and water with a strong brush eliminates the worry that water could be forced under the siding.  It can also be considered more environmentally friendly because there’s no need for an electric or gas engine.
